75 Easy - Slow Habit Building
Share
Have you heard of 75 Hard? Fitness and healthy lifestyle enthusiasts are familiar with this trend, circling on social media and beyond. My basic understanding of it, is that it's a habit-building 75 day stint of strict exercise, diet, water intake, self-improvement books and progress photos. However, if you have heard of it, you might know that it’s a pretty intense program. If you know me, you might know that I value slowness, softness, and listening to the body as a general rule. But I loved the idea of being so intentional for 75 days straight.
On one misty morning in Jordan River, I was sitting with my closest friend Rachel discussing this and we thought, “what if we used the intention behind this trend and changed it almost entirely to cater to our own goals and lifestyle? With this came a goofy but simple spin-off, 75 Easy.
Forgetting the 45 minutes of vigorous exercise, sweet-treat restrictions and 4L of water from the original trend, we came up with our own lists. Words I had in mind were easy, fulfilling, and cozy. After all, I want to build these healthy habits over the next 75 days and thus they have to be realistic and attainable for me.
Hanna’s 75 Easy daily list:
- go for a run of any distance (some days this is a 10k, others it’s a run up and down the driveway with my dog)
- stretch or yoga session
- comb my hair (a silly one)
- pick up my book or journal
- sit quietly outside with no distractions for 5 minutes
- eat intentionally and with love
I also added in a weekly ocean dip, which has been possibly the most exciting of them all!
While these might not be for you, each of these items on the list are habits that I’d like to start or actions that are important to me. I’ve found that these are all attainable in a day, even juggling 10 hour shifts and taking care of my dog.
After sharing with Andria at Spruce, she came up with a list of her own that she’d like to share as well — take a look!
Andria’s 75 Easy daily list:
- drink 1.5L of water
- be creative for any amount of time (build, write, design, etc)
- do 2 songs worth of exercise in the morning (dance, use swivel board, medicine ball)
- meditate/visualize for 2 minutes
- save $5 a day in a specific savings (an easy $375 by the end of it)!
We encourage you to give this some thought, and if it feels like it’s for you, come up with your own little list! Remember, it can be as easy or hard as you want. It also doesn’t have to be 75 straight days, that’s the thing — this is for no one but yourself, bend the rules to make it attainable and fulfilling for you! Let us know if you decide to join us on this journey!
With love and ease,
Hanna <3
